There is a world very much like ours, with the same rivers and mountains; the same morals and values; the same sports and activities. A world home to people much like us. Normal people, though their souls are embodied to walk beside them in animal form--referred to as 'daemons'.
Over time, his world has grown to become every bit as modern and advanced as ours. Perhaps even more so. But strange occurances have been happening there, and though they are rare, they cannot be ignored. Children are being born who possess abilities that can only be described as magical. The cause and reason is unknown. Infact, little is known about the children themselves.
The government has decided to take action. No good can come of these children mixing with society, they have ruled. And so began their secret movement. Anyone with these abilities have been taken from their families, sometimes unwillingly, and whisked away into the mountains where no one would ever look for them. The government promised the children a place where they could be safe, and practice their powers freely. That place turned out to be Stonebrook Academy. A lone, castle-like estate that has pledged to "rescue" all gifted children.
Trap them, is more like it. Though at first, Stonebrook, in all its splendor, is a place of wonder and opportunity where they don't have to hide any more, the children soon realize that they cannot leave even if they wanted to. The security is intense, and even if you possessed the ability to fly, the journey over the endless mountain range surrounding the little valley would be impossible. Some became furious and rebelled, while others thought things through. What was so bad about this place, anyway? They were treated kindly, given a special kind of education, and were free to socialize and let their powers grow. All children, from thirteen to twenty-one were offered this education at the appropriate level. Maybe everything would be alright.
Such thoughts were abundant before the dissappearances started. Students who misbehaved or caused a serious amount of trouble, or even those who had abilities that seemed especially powerful were dragged from their dorms in the dead of night. Some never return, and those who do never speak of the experience. The most accepted theory is that some sort of [inhumane?] testing is going on, but no one knows more than that.
What's going on? Is Stonebrook really as safe as it seems?
